Playing around with new resources

Last Monday night I learned about some new resources in doing family history research. They are Rootsmapper.com Awsome! It maps where your ancestors came from. Figuring out how to use it most productively.

There is Puzzilla.org another mapping tool that can be used in conjuction with Roots magic a tool that need more tutoring to become better at using. It helps in locating family members.

Third tool is called Treeseek.com another amazing tool that I am still learning how to use for the benifit of my family.

I am such an apprentice when it comes to using these tools. There are people much younger than I am that use these tools with such finesse. Confident with help that these can become second nature to me and I can better bless my family.

There is a cool tool called Ancestral Name Cloud. It pulled first names and the larger the name the more popular the name is in the family. William is a very poplar name for boys and Elizabeth for girls in my family.

There are so many cool tools and ways to celebrate the family. I Love it.  I am going to see if I can post it on this blog.

Back to doing Family History.

Well today is the first time in several weeks that I am working on Family History. I have let life get in the way of looking for my family. Bad thing to do. I understand that life does get in the way but I was wasting my free time doing things of little value. I was not prioritizing or using my time well. That is my confession. Now here is what I am doing to correct my mistake.

I have decided that at home in my apartment is not the place to work on family history. I get distracted on the couch and working at the table in kitchen I get the munchies. So, for working on family history I have chosen to work in the lounge in my apartment complex. This coming week I plan to make to the family library and work on the computer there. 

Ok, here is another confession. I have been a bit apprehensive about family web sites that I am not familiar with and that is one of the reasons of not working on family history. Not a good reason but a reason for delaying family history. During stake conference today, I received a mental reminder that the Holy Ghost will help me understand the truth of all things. That as I search, I will be guided to know if site is one I needed to stay with or get out of. 

The web site which is proving to be very useful is www.werelate.org. Everyone that has posted on this web site gives the sources from which they have found info on family members. It makes it easier to check and verify info in my own search.

Tree Connect make a source from any website other than family search. Tips from Sister Poole

Making Tree Connect Tool

• Go to Google Chrome
• Go to to upper right hand corner of page to the 3 vertical dashes.
• Bookmark check to show bookmark bar
• New Tab - Type in recordseek.com
• click and drag Tree Connect to Bookmark bar and drop it.

Using Tree Connect Tool

• Found source: Highlight the text
• Click Tree Connect
• May want to edit the title Line, to give more info. 
• Push save button
• An ID number is unique to a person on Family Search 
• Copy ID number for He or She and Paste ID number
• Click Search
• Click the person's name
• Give reason for attaching source
• Click attach
• Click view individual person card
• Click Source
• Click Tag event
• Click Close

Connect Same Source to Spouse or Family member

• Click family member
• Click Source
• Click or attach source from source box.
• Click attach on upper right side of page.
• Add reason
• Click attach
• Top left corner click individual to return to their page
• Click source and tag event.

Talking to my Aunt last week helped me in my family search process

Last week I called my Aunt who lives back east for some help in locating information concerning my family. She told me that a way to connect my family is to start a face book page as a way to connect with others. Have not yet seen any results from it yet but I am still an amateur in doing family history. 

Had a question about some dates on documents and graves. My Aunt Annette told me that dates on graves where not always accurate because people cannot always remember dates. Concerning other documents and the inconsistency with dates, is that I do not know all the facts as my family is not here to answer the questions. What I can do is follow the spirit in confirming what I have found is indeed the correct info on a particular family member. I am not giving specifics at this time until I have found more about this family member. Will up date soon.  

Who are Andrew and Louise Children?

This afternoon I have been trying find information on when and where Carl Leonard Lindquist, Mary Josephine Lindquist, Ethel Christina Lindquist, Ellen Augusta Lindquist, Theresa Signa Lindquist, John Axel Lindquist, Kenneth Edward Lindquist, and Blenda Linnea Lindquist. 

I found some information on Kenneth Edward Lindquist I know he passed away in Bountiful, UT 15 June 1986. He was born 10 March 1905. But there is no obituary on him that I can locate. 

Who are Andrew and Louise Lindquist? Who are their children? How did this journey began?

Searching for information on Andrew Anderson Lindquist and Louise August Osterdahl  family has been a real challenge.
I have been going through the process of verifying and finding information on each member of this beautiful family. I have never met any of these people but I love them. 

This love began when I went to Familysearch.org and started to look for a place to start my family history. I came across Johanna Andersdotter, aunt to Andrew Anderson Lindquist, who had two husbands and a 7 children but these children where not connected to a father. I felt like I needed to find these children father and I did. It was a real challenge because of my ignorance of my Swedish mother tongue. Thankfully where  missionaries and family history techs who where able to help me with my search. 

I plan on keeping this blog as journal as I go through out this journey in finding info on my family with the hopes that through this blog that I can connect with my more of my Swedish family.
